Inktober begins again! 🖊️✨
Last year, I filled October with African beetles — this year, I’m exploring butterflies from around the world. Thirty-one days, thirty-one illustrations, each one a winged jewel.
To start: the Asterope butterfly. A lesser-known butterfly that glimmers with sapphire tones, like something dreamed rather than real. A fitting opening flight.

Nine encounters, nine stories – the rainforest never ceases to amaze. 🌿✨
Exploring its lush rainforests and vibrant landscapes gave me the chance to meet some truly extraordinary creatures. Armed with my camera and a lot of patience, I focused on what fascinates me most – the hidden world of insects.
From brilliant beetles to delicate butterflies and everything in between, each photo tells a little story of the diversity and beauty that thrives in this corner of the world. 🪲🦋🐞
This first grid is a glimpse of nine of my favorite captures from the trip – and I’ll share each one individually after so you can enjoy all their details up close.
Traveling and photographing these insects reminded me of how much there is left to discover, and how every small detail in nature feels like a masterpiece.

Today I finally pinned my European stag beetle (Lucanus cervus). This incredible specimen was found dead in Ukraine back in 2014, and I’ve been looking forward to preserving it properly for a long time. Stag beetles are rare where I live, so it feels extra special to have one in my collection.
I hope my pinning efforts have done it justice—it will be both a reference for upcoming artwork and a piece I’ll treasure.

The European stag beetle, Lucanus cervus.
A symbol of ancient oak forests, crowned with antler-like jaws.
This specimen was found dead in Ukraine in 2014 and will now be pinned for use in an illustration — a way to let its beauty endure.
Last summer, I was fortunate enough to see a large male alive in the wild here in Sweden — a rare sight in my region. A fleeting reminder of how extraordinary and uncommon these beetles truly are.
